Editorial Guidelines & Submissions Process
We want your stories!
WHat is novelly
Novelly is reimagining civic education and civic engagement for young people by combining the power of digital technology and literature to foster community and discussions. Our mobile reading app uses stories to educate and empower youth to take action on the pressing, contentious, and diverse social issues affecting them today.
What we’re looking for
The Novelly app functions as a quarterly digital literary magazine geared toward teens aged 13-17. Our inaugural issue will center around the theme of immigration followed by climate change and rape culture in schools. We are open to fiction, poetry, and essay submissions based on those three topics. We pay our writers on an individual basis.
The novelly voice
Novelly tells stories that aim to amplify marginalized voices, as well as highlight the importance of activism and the perspective of today’s youth. We are looking for pieces that focus on pressing social issues and especially how the affect the lives of young people. We highly encourage submissions from youth (under the age of 26).
how to pitch us
To send a submission to Novelly’s editorial team, email firstname.lastname@example.org with the subject line being the topic + genre of submission. For example, a submission for poetry in the rape culture issue would have the subject line, “Rape Culture: Poetry.” Please include a brief cover letter and your bio pasted in the body of the email, and an attachment of the submission either in PDF or Google Docs.
For poetry, please keep your submission under 5 pages. For essays and fiction, please keep your submission under 30,000 words. We do not currently accept visual art submissions. If this is a simultaneous submission, please indicate in the body of the email and notify us when it is accepted elsewhere. We look forward to reading your work.
